Charitable Contributions

Since 1997, the Maine Marathon, Half Marathon and Marathon Relay and its participants have raised more than $2,600,000 for charity.

Each year, event organizers designate a local charity as the main beneficiary of race proceeds, and entrants are invited to make additional donations to that charity. Proceeds from 2011 benefitted Camp To Belong Maine, an organization that connects and reunites siblings who have been separated because of foster care or other out-of-home care. A total of $35,000 was raised for Camp To Belong.

In addition, the following groups received donations totaling $16,500: Portland Police Athletic Programs for Youth, Portland Bayside Little League, the Falmouth, Cumberland and Yarmouth police departments for youth and/or fuel assistance programs, and the RRCA Kids Run the Nation program, Lucid Stage, and the Maine Running Hall of Fame. Also, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team in Training program raised $120,000 through its Massachusetts and Rhode Island chapters, and the Center for Grieving Children and the Maine Children's Cancer Program raised a total of $30,000.

Strive is the official race charity in 2012 and 2013. A new race charity for the next two-year cycle will be chosen next summer. Contact the race directors if you are interested in becoming a future beneficiary.
